田代竜一氏は1948年東京都亀戸出身。日本大学法学部中退ののち、東京綜合写真専門学校を卒業。1970年代後半、「カメラ毎日」で写真を発表していましたが、1980年1月号の「いい日旅立ち」と題するカラー写真発表から、写真の世界から姿を消していました。

2022年、長い長い沈黙を破って発表された『ブルーにこんがらがって』は、田代竜一氏の初の写真集となります。タイトルはボブ・ディランの名曲「ブルーにこんがらがって」から。ディランはこの曲を「10年の人生を、2年かけて書き上げた曲」と語ったことがありますが、田代氏のこの写真集も70年代からのライフワークをまとめ上げた傑作となっています。

Ryuichi Tashiro was born in Kameido, Tokyo in 1948. After dropping out of the Nihon University College of Law, he graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography. In the late 1970s, he published his photographs in "Camera Mainichi," but disappeared from the photography world after the publication of a color photograph titled "Tabi Biyori" (Travel Days) in the January 1980 issue.

In 2022, "Tangled Up in Blue" was published after a long, long silence, and was Ryuichi Tashiro's first book of photographs. The title is taken from Bob Dylan's famous song "Tangled Up in Blue". Dylan once said that he wrote this song "over the course of two years, ten years of my life." Tashiro's collection of photographs is another masterpiece, a compilation of his life's work since the 1970s.
